Ciara Princess Harris (born October 25, 1985), who performs under the mononym Ciara, is an American recording artist, dancer, actress, and fashion model. Born in Austin, Texas, she travelled around the world during her childhood, only to land in Atlanta, Georgia where she met music producer, Jazze Pha. With his help, she was signed to LaFace Records, and went on to become a successful artist, selling more than seven million albums worldwide and having numerous top ten hits.

In 2004 Ciara released her debut album “Goodies.” The album spawned three worldwide hits which featured rappers, including the title track with Petey Pablo, "1, 2 Step" with Missy Elliot, and "Oh" with Ludacris. The titler track remained atop the Billboard Hot 100 for over a month. The album's fourth single, "And I" achieved lesser chart success in the United States. Upon release, “Goodies” debuted at three on the US Billboard 200, and charted in several international music markets. It was subsequently certified multi-Platinum in the United States, Platinum in Canada and Gold in the United Kingdom, eventually selling five million copies worldwide. Ciara also participated in a number of successful collaborations, including US top five hits "Lose Control" with Missy Elliot, and "Like You" with rapper Bow Wow, as well as the US top ten "So What", a pairing with group Field Mob.

Two years later in 2006, Ciara returned with her second effort, “Ciara: The Evolution.” Having the similar success that “Goodies” had, “Ciara: The Evolution” debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, and charted in the top thirty of several international markets, reaching Platinum status in the US and selling around two million copies worldwide. Although it did not contain an international hit as her debut did, the lead single "Get Up" charted in some international markets and was a top ten hit in the US, and the second single, "Promise," was a US R&B chart topper. "Like a Boy", which became a US top twenty hit and charted internationally, was also released, as well as "Can't Leave 'Em Alone", featuring rapper 50 Cent.

Also during this time, Ciara took part as a featured artist in songs such as Tiffany Evans' "Promise Ring", Nelly's "Stepped on My J'z", which also featured J.D., and she was a part of the Stand Up to Cancer's charity campaign, appearing on the single "Just Stand Up!"

Three years after the second release, Ciara released her third album, “Fantasy Ride.” While remaining with her trademark R&B and hip-hop sound, the work also went towards a mainstream pop and dance direction, as well as using soul influences. While it debuted in the top ten of the US, Ireland, and the United Kingdom, the album was notably unsuccessful compared to Ciara's previous albums, only selling 193,000 copies in the US over a one year period. However it spawned the worldwide top ten hit, "Love Sex Magic", featuring American singer Justin Timberlake. The album's remaining singles, "Like a Surgeon" reached the lower half of the US R&B chart, while "Work" had moderate success in few international markets. Also in 2009, Ciara collaborated with Spanish-American singer Enrique Iglesias on the international top ten hit, "Takin' Back My Love."

Ciara's fourth studio album, “Basic Instinct,” released December 10, 2010, saw the singer returning to her urban roots. Three singles preceded the album's release including the Ludacris-assisted lead single "Ride", which peaked within the top five on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart at number three and the Billboard Hot 100 at number forty-two. The other singles, "Speechless" and "Gimmie Dat" failed to impact more than "Ride", and all the singles failed to impact significantly on international single charts. “Basic Instinct” debuted on the U.S. Billboard 200 at number forty-four with 37,000 copies sold, becoming the lowest selling debuting album of her career so far and continuing a downward trend in Ciara's commercial success.

Prior to the release of her third studio album, Ciara sold over seven million albums worldwide, and she has sold more than 4.3 million albums and 6.9 million digital tracks in the US alone. For more on ciara's biography click here
